Aktuelle Situation: Jailbreak und Exploits

Ich hänge mal wieder einen Tag zurück wegen Uniabgaben, aber naja besser jetzt als gar nicht.
Und zwar hat sich P0sixninja, Mitglied im Dev Team zur momentanen Jailbreak-Situation geäußert. Zum anderen wird aufgeklärt, was das neue “greenpois0n” ist,
zum anderen erzählt er, wer welchen Exploit wann rausbringen wird und was damit möglich ist.

Zunächst wollte er einige Fragen zum “greenpois0n” klären. Was ist “greenpois0n genau? “greenpois0n” ist ein Toolkit, welches entwickelt wurde, um zu helfen neue Schwachstellen zu “exploiten”. Er wiederholt, dass “greenpois0n” selbst kein Exploit ist.

Diese haben normalerweise langweilige Namen wie “iBoot Environment Variable Overflow” oder “usb_control_msg(0×21, 2)”. Tools sind diejenigen Programme, die kreative Namen wie redsn0w, blackra1n oder greenpois0n haben. Auch, wenn die meisten Tools halt die selben Exploits nutzen, hat jedes seine einzigartigen Stärken und Schwächen. redsn0w und blackra1n sind laut seiner Aussage zwar brilliante Programme, jedoch erfüllten diese nicht die Flexibilität und erweiterten Fähigkeiten, die sie sich erwünschen.. Somit wurde “greenpois0n” geboren.

Zum einen soll eine neue GUI ein noch leichteres Jailbreaken ermöglichen, zum anderen liegt die wirklich große Stärke in dem neuen fortgeschrittenen Exploit. Dieser injeziert viele neue mächtige Kommandos in das iBoot, welches dem User ermöglicht alles zu tun, in dem Zugriff auf die AES engine gewährt wird, um die Firmware Keys zu entschlüsseln, existierende iBoot Funktionen auszuführen, das Filesystem auch zu beschreiben und sogar Breakpoints innerhalb des iBoots zu setzen und somit Register und Stack Informationen während der Laufzeit zu dumpen.

Das Dev Team hatte vor wenigen Wochen einen untethered Jailbreak vorgeführt. Was ist das für ein Exploit? Es handelt sich hierbei exakt um den selben Exploit, den Geohot mit dem iPod Touch 3g demonstriert hatte und von dem ich im Blog auch berichtet hatte. Jedoch hat sich bis jetzt schon wieder einiges geändert und einige neue Entwicklungen wurden aufgedeckt.
Er erwähnt den neuen userland “spirit” exploit, der bei Comex demonstriert wurde, um das erste iPad zu jailbreaken. Nach P0sixninja sei dieser Exploit einer der beeindruckensten Arbeiten der letzten Zeit, kann aber leider sehr einfach von Apple weggepatched werden im nächsten Firmware Update. Mit diesem Exploit sei einem der Zugriff auf viele Low Level Hardware Features, inklusive der Fähigkeit Fireware Keys zu entschlüsseln, verwehrt. IBoot exploits wiederrum sind viel lower level und bieten viel Freiheit zur direkten Interaktion mit dem uneingeschränkten System. Weil diese Exploit so mächtig ist, haben die Entwickler des DEV-Teams entschieden, dass es weiser wäre den “spirit” Exploit zuerst zu veröffentlichen und den iBoot exploit erst bei der nächsten Hardware Revision zu veröffentlichen.

Schon kurz nach dieser Entscheidung begann P0sixninja mit der Portierung von “spirit” auf Linux und dem Hinzufügen dieser Fähigkeiten in das greenpois0n Toolkit. Zum gleichen Zeitpunkt saßen Comex, einige Mitglieder vom Dev Team und das Chronic-Dev Team an Feinarbeiten an dem Exploit und daran Cydia auf dem iPad laufen zu lassen. Die Entwicklung lief fortschreitend und reibungslos bis das Wunderkind Geohot vor wenigen Tagen dem Dev Team mal wieder die Pläne durchkreuzt hat und mit einem NEUEN Exploit mal wieder alle überrascht hat.
Aufgrund dessen ist das Dev Team gezwungen alle Release Pläne nochmals zu überdenken. Somit ist der momentane Stand, dass der alte Exploit des Dev Teams, aber auch der neue “spirit” Exploit wohl noch vor den Schranken warten werden, um nicht zu schnell von Apple weggepatched zu werden. Dennoch kann P0sixninja sogut wie dafür garantieren, dass der Exploit für 3.1.3/3.2 für alle Geräte noch vor Ende des Monats kommen wird. Er rät allen Leuten Geohot’s Blog im Auge zu behalten, um neuste Updates der Zukunft mitzubekommen. Zum anderen sind alle Jailbreaker aufgefordert ihre SHSHs mit der “Make my Life easier” Funktion im Cydia abzusichern. Das ermöglicht momentan wieder zu jeder alten Firmware downzugraden.
